Speaking in the May 8 episode of WWE's The Bump, Lashley was asked about his interaction with Hayes on WWE SmackDown and Hayes' tweets in which he took shots at him. Lashley stated that he wanted to beat Hayes up, as he was another one of the young guys who came up ad talked trash. He said that Hayes' disrespect pissed him off. Lashley noted that he did not disrespect the veterans when he was on his way up, but the younger talent now disrespected him. He emphasized that the business was about respect. Lashley said that the level of respect had been lost in the business.

Hayes responded by saying that he had not seen Lashley that fired up since 2006. He noted that maybe they would clash in the King of the Ring finals.

Lashley fired back by telling Hayes to go watch the tape and put the phone down. He noted that "punk ass kids" thought they could make an example of the veterans of the industry. Lashley expressed his frustration by writing "SMH."
